About Deer Lake Farmstead
Deer Lake Farmstead RV Park and Campground near Mille Lacs Lake—one of the newest RV parks in Malmo, MN—is the result of one family choosing to put down even deeper roots in a place they already loved. Owners Lynwood and Michele Elliott spent 17 years owning and operating Malmo Market—the local hub where people stopped for groceries, bait, fuel, and conversation. Living above the store, they came to know full-time residents and seasonal regulars by name, and they saw firsthand why the area keeps drawing people back: big-water fishing on Mille Lacs, small-town friendliness, and traditions that carry on year after year. When it was time for a new chapter, they didn’t go looking somewhere else. They stayed right here—building the kind of campground near Mille Lacs Lake and seasonal lake community they’d heard people describe across the counter for nearly two decades.
That opportunity showed up in the form of an old family farm on the south shore of Deer Lake—the former Ott property, with a calm, environmental (non-motorized) lake out front and open fields behind. Instead of turning it into another high-density campground or loud resort, the Elliotts saw a place for a small, quiet, seasonal RV and park-model community where people could settle in for the season, not just a night or two. Less than a mile from Malmo Bay on Mille Lacs, Deer Lake Farmstead lets guests enjoy quick access to big-lake fishing, boating, and dining, then “come home” to loons, farm views, and a slower, more neighborly pace. The family is still here, still local, and still hands-on—caring for the land, the lake, and the people who choose to make this their seasonal home.
