Deer Lake Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What is Deer Lake Farmstead?
Deer Lake Farmstead RV Park & Campground is a small, family-owned seasonal RV and park-model community on the south shore of non-motorized Deer Lake, just outside Malmo, Minnesota. It’s a quiet, grown-up lake place—not a high-amenity, high-traffic overnight campground.

How many sites are there?
We’re intentionally small, with just 19 extra-large seasonal sites. That size keeps things calm, friendly, and easy to know.

Is Deer Lake Farmstead a nightly campground?
No. We are seasonal only. Sites are rented for the season, and guests come and go as they please within that season. We don’t offer nightly or short-term stays.

How far is Deer Lake Farmstead from the Twin Cities?
We’re about 105 miles and under a 2-hour drive from Minneapolis (in normal traffic), making it realistic for regular weekend trips as well as longer stays.

Seasonal Sites & Joining the Community

What kinds of RVs or park models do you accept?
Deer Lake Farmstead is designed for seasonal RVs and park models that stay on site for the season. If you’re wondering whether your specific unit is a good fit, just reach out with the year, length, and style and we’ll talk it through.

How big are the sites?
Sites are extra-large (4,800+ sq. ft.), with room for your unit plus a deck, small shed, outdoor seating, and real breathing room between neighbors.

Are there full hookups?
Yes. Seasonal sites include water, sewer, and 20/30/50-amp electric, plus access to high-speed fiber internet and on-site trash service.

Can I add a deck, shed, or outdoor living space?
Yes, within park and county guidelines. Many seasonal guests add decks, small sheds, and outdoor seating areas to make their site feel like a true seasonal home. We’ll walk you through what’s allowed before you build.

How do I find out about availability and rates?

Amenities & On-Site Experience

What amenities are available on the property?
Amenities are simple but thoughtful for longer stays: a cozy clubhouse, clean bathhouse with showers, laundry room, small fitness nook, high-speed fiber internet, full hookups at each site, on-site trash, and a lakeside dock on Deer Lake.

Is there a clubhouse or shared indoor space?
Yes. Our clubhouse gives you a relaxed indoor spot for coffee, cards, reading, or catching up with neighbors—especially on rainy or cooler days.

Do you have showers and restrooms?
Yes. We have clean, well-kept bath facilities with showers and restrooms, a short walk from the seasonal sites.

Is there a laundry room on site?
Yes. An on-site laundry room with washers and dryers makes it easy to keep up with clothes and linens without driving to town.

Lake, Boats & Outdoor Recreation

What is Deer Lake like?
Deer Lake is a non-motorized, environmental lake. It’s quiet by design—great for kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, swimming, fishing, and nature watching, without the constant noise of big engines and jet skis.

Do you have a dock?
Yes, there is a lakeside dock on Deer Lake. Guests use it for launching small craft, casual fishing, and just sitting to enjoy sunrise, sunset, and stargazing.

How close are you to Mille Lacs Lake?
We’re less than a mile from Malmo Bay on Mille Lacs Lake—within walking distance or a short golf cart ride. You can enjoy quiet Deer Lake at “home” and be on big water in just a few minutes.

Can I keep a boat for Mille Lacs?
Many guests use Mille Lacs for walleye and smallmouth fishing or bigger-water cruising. For specifics on boat storage, launch access, and where to keep trailers, please contact us so we can walk through current options and recommendations.

Pets, Guests & Families

Are pets allowed?
Yes, well-behaved pets are welcome at Deer Lake Farmstead. We simply ask that you follow our pet rules, keep pets under control, clean up after them, and be considerate of neighbors. For current pet policies (including any limits or restrictions), please contact us directly.

Is the park family-friendly?
Kids and grandkids are welcome to visit, and many seasonal guests enjoy hosting family. That said, the park is designed as a quiet, grown-up seasonal community, not a kid-centric resort with playgrounds and daily activities.

Can I have overnight guests?
Occasional overnight guests are generally welcome. For details on guest limits, parking, and any visitor fees, please check our current park guidelines or reach out so we can go over the specifics.

Vehicles, ATVs & Golf Carts

Yes, golf carts are allowed and are a popular way to move around the park and nearby, in line with our rules and local regulations. For safety guidelines and where you can/can’t drive, please refer to current park rules.

Can I bring an ATV or side-by-side?
Many guests do—this is great ATV country with extensive nearby trail systems. ATVs are allowed for responsible use consistent with park rules and local laws. We also offer off-season storage for carts and ATVs for seasonal guests. Contact us for current details and fees.

Is there parking at each site?
Yes. Each seasonal site has space for vehicles at the site, and we’ll help you understand parking arrangements when you choose your site.

Internet & Working Remote

Yes. Deer Lake Farmstead offers high-speed fiber internet to the park, making it easy to stream, stay in touch, and work remotely from your site or the clubhouse.

Can I work remotely from my seasonal site?
Many guests do. With fiber internet, a quiet atmosphere, and places to work inside your RV, on your deck, or in the clubhouse, Deer Lake Farmstead works well as a remote-work home base. If you have specific bandwidth or equipment questions, reach out and we’ll help you decide if it’s a good fit.

Season, Policies & Payments

When is your season?
We operate on a seasonal schedule (spring through fall). Exact opening and closing dates can vary a bit by year and weather, so please contact us for current season dates.

Do you offer winter camping?
Deer Lake Farmstead is a seasonal park, not a year-round campground. If you’re interested in leaving a unit on site over winter or accessing it in the off-season, contact us so we can review current options and rules.

How do payments and contracts work?
We use a seasonal agreement rather than nightly reservations. For up-to-date information on rates, payment schedules, and contract details, please contact us directly—these can change over time and we want to give you the most accurate information.

Do you have quiet hours?
Yes. We have quiet-hours expectations to keep the park peaceful for everyone, especially in the evenings and overnight. For current quiet-hour times and guidelines, please see the park rules or ask us when you inquire.

Where can I see the full park rules?
We provide current park rules and policies as part of the seasonal agreement and are happy to share them when you inquire about a site. Because rules can change over time, please don’t rely on third-party summaries—always check with us for the latest version.
