Minnesota Fishing Opener — May 2026

The walleye fishing opener on Mille Lacs Lake is one of Minnesota’s most beloved traditions. Deer Lake Farmstead is less than a mile from Mille Lacs — making us the ideal seasonal base for serious anglers. Reserve early; opener weekends fill fast.

Memorial Day Weekend

Kick off the season with lakeside relaxation, campfires, and the sounds of Deer Lake. Our seasonal sites open mid-May, so you’ll be settled in and ready to enjoy every moment of Memorial weekend.

Summer on Deer Lake — June through August

Non-motorized Deer Lake is peaceful and pristine all summer long. Kayak, canoe, swim, or simply sit and watch the resident swan pair, “The Swansons,” glide past your site. The fiber internet keeps remote workers productive while the lake calls them outside.

Fall Color Season — September & October

Central Minnesota puts on a spectacular fall show. Day trips to Mille Lacs Kathio State Park, the North Shore, and local farm stands make fall one of our most popular seasons. Sites are available through mid-October.
